Trade
fair construction systems in aluminium
The history of trade fairs in Germany
began in 1947 at the instigation of the British military government.
The "Export
Fair 1947" was initiated in Hanover to kick-start the German post-war
economy in the occupied zone. It attracted more than 700,000 visitors
and was a great success. Strangely enough, even though it was held
in the production buildings of the Associated Light Metal Works, the actual
construction of the fair was clearly a matter for woodworkers at this
time.
The number of fair events increased all the time. The ever shorter
erection and dismantling times as well as increasing demands on flexibility,
design and an economic construction made a more efficient method of trade
construction necessary. Wood was therefore replaced by aluminium, a material
which provides ideal conditions thanks to its light weight, stability,
non-flammability and corrosion resistance.
The aluminium systems which were developed were based on different
basic profiles which can be put together as modules in different formations.
They can be used as connection elements for partition walls, as supports
for further profiles or as cross-beams for assembly.
Two examples: the SYMA system with a square profile of 30x30 mm and
the OCTANORM system with an eight-groove profile.
