Aluminium on top

Aluminium roofs have been used for a very long time; and most of them are still around. The first roofs with aluminium were built at the end of the 19th century. The most famous example is the church of San Gioacchiono built in Rome in 1897. In the meantime, aluminium is seen not only as roofing for factory buildings or churches, but more and more frequently also for residential buildings, even on renovated properties. This is, of course, perfectly sensible as there are many substantial benefits when using this light metal.

Aluminium does not only have the advantage of being relatively light and so lowering the demands on structural engineering and the support construction. It also has the clear benefit of permitting the use of different, unique roof designs. An aluminium roof offers aesthetic shapes while remaining a cost-favourable alternative: costs are kept low in the long term due to its high service life, its stability and its suitability for use in a material mix. When put up correctly, an aluminium roof requires practically no maintenance.

Mill finish aluminium combines with the oxygen in the air to provide a resistant protective layer which becomes harder and harder the older it is and which renews itself if it is damaged by outside influences. A colour coat will ensure that the roof fits into the environment. It also offers the additional benefit that it has corrosion protection against environmental influences such as acid rain.

The actual roofing is provided by aluminium sheets which have different cross-sections and profiles. The base material is made up of strips of a high-quality aluminium alloy which is around 0.7 mm thick and which has different lacquer layers applied to its lower side in a coil-coating process to provide hardening. The aluminium strips can be processed to form roof shingles, shakes or roof panels or can also be used as roofing in unaltered form. Roofs can be made of aluminium up to a roof slope of 10 degrees.

Having a roof over your head is good. Aluminium makes it even better.
