| Aluminium |
 |
The light metal aluminium has a dull silvery-grey appearance due to
the thin oxide layer which immediately forms on contact with air. This
oxide layer makes aluminium very resistant to corrosion.
Aluminium is the third most common element in the earth's crust and only
occurs in chemical compounds. Aluminium is a very good electrical conductor
and is also very soft and ductile so that it can be processed in a number
of ways.
