Hard anodisation

This term covers a number of anodising techniques with which thick (50-100 µm) and dense oxide layers can be produced at low temperatures. The layers are more resistant to wear than the best heat-treatable steals and have an electric insulation capacity similar to that of porcelain.

Hard anodised products are used in electrical and mechanical applications. Various impregnating materials such as lanolin, Teflon. molybdenum sulphide, etc. are suitable to reduce the coefficient of friction.

The very high layer thicknesses mean that it may be necessary to take increased sizes of the hard anodised material into account after treatment.
